Retro Access Dreamcast 15kHz/31kHz 480i/480p SCART Cable
Retro Access
All our cables are 100% manufactured in the USA using components sourced from reputable suppliers.
All Dreamcast cables now by default have Kemet 220uf tantalum capacitors on the source (console end) board.
This is a SCART cable for use with Dreamcast (works on any regional model, PAL or NTSC.) A 15kHz/31kHz switch is located on the console end plug to switch between 480i and 480p display. Uses a circuit designed by Dan Kunz(shop.dansprojects.com) featuring a sync combiner to convert H sync and V sync into csync for the 31kHz(480p) signal and passes the Dreamcast's stock 15kHz(480i) output.
Please note that the 31khz (480p) mode will not work on PAL SCART TVs, but will work through scalers such as the OSSC, Retrotink etc.
There are two cable options in the “cable length/type” menu:
Fortraflex is a highly graded individually shielded, highly flexible cable made to order by Tasker of Italy for our company. All signal lines are individually shielded with pure copper strand wrap to eliminate crosstalk-induced artifacts. The outer casing is a soft and flexible polymer used commonly in professional microphone cables or high end wired game controllers (eg: official SNES controllers) to allow for increased mobility.
75 ohm multicore coax cable is a professional grade cable that maintains an impedance of 75 ohms to completely prevent signal reflection. This is the highest possible grade of cable possible for video signals, and we’re the only company in the world offering this as an option for SCART. Each line is individually shielded with copper wrap as well as having the grounds isolated from other signals via color coded PVC coating. This cable is also made to order for us by Tasker of Italy. Coaxial cable is thick, but it's the best option if you need a longer cable.Â
Please note that you do not need 75 ohm coax cable to make this cable compatible with a Retrotink. “75 ohm impedance coax” refers to the cable being rated for the already correctly attuned 75 ohm signals, ie it will maintain signal integrity over longer lengths than most other cables on the market. All cables purchaseable from this listing are attenuated correctly for use on Retrotink devices.
The cable contains 220uf Nichicon or Panasonic capacitors on the RGBÂ lines. These are mounted on a PCB inside the SCART hood.
